Project Description
Students are asked to create a visual representation of a math term or concept and add it to the wiki.
Instructions for members of the MathMasters wiki:
Pick a math term or concept from one of the dictionaries found on the MathWords web site. (Clicking on MathWords will open the site in a new window or tab in your browser)
Create a visual representation of the term or concept that you've chosen. Use your imagination and be creative! Try to explain the term, through your image, to someone who might be having a hard time understanding the term or concept. (Check out the pages that have already been created and linked off the Glossary page for examples of what others have done.)
If your finished image is not in digital form (preferably GIF, JPG, or PNG), scan your picture so that it is now a digital file in one of the 3 suggested formats. If you do not know how to do this or don't have access to a scanner, please ask a friend or the instructor for help.
Upload your image to the wiki, using the File upload tool. (You'll need to be logged into wikispaces with your username name and password to do this.
Check the Glossary page to see if a page for your term/concept already exists. If not, create a page on the wiki that has a text definition of the term you've chosen, along with a copy of the image you uploaded. (See an example) If a page for your term/concept is already linked to the Glossary page, you will need to edit the term/concept page to add your own image. Do NOT delete any images or text that already exist on the page you are editing. Add your own definition, image, and name (first name, last initial only, please) after anything that is already on the page. Save any edits to make the changes.
If you created a new term/concept page, go to the Glossary page in the wiki and edit the Glossary page so that it contains a link to the page you created for your term/concept definition and image. Please be sure to add your link in alphabetical order to the list of terms/concepts.
If you have used any resource material that is not already listed on the Sources page, please add your source citation.
Test the link on the Glossary page to be sure that it properly links to the term/concept page containing your definition and image.

Even if you aren't a member of the 21st Century MathMasters wiki, you can still contribute to our visual math dictionary during April and May 2009. Please send a message to the MathMasters wiki organizer (jouradnik) asking for more information. You will need to have a Wikispaces username in order to send the message internally through Wikispaces.
NOTE: PAVHS is not a real school. This wiki site is being used for an example professional development project about using wikis that is available on the Atomic Learning Web site, as a part of the 21st Century Skills Collection.
